1. Who we are
studywine.ai ("we", "us", "the Service") is an independent wine-tasting study companion that provides guided tasting exercises, AI-generated feedback, flashcards, and progress tracking. We are committed to protecting your personal data and your right to privacy.
2. What personal data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account data: your email address and name when you register.
- Study content: tasting notes, aroma records, flashcards, and progress data you create.
- Usage data: feature usage counts needed to enforce plan limits and improve the Service.
- Image uploads: photos of wine labels you scan, processed to extract label details.
Payment details are handled securely by Stripe and are never stored on our servers.
3. How we use your data
We process your personal data to:
- Provide and maintain the Service, including your tasting history and progress.
- Generate AI feedback on your tasting notes and study content.
- Process subscription payments and manage your plan.
- Send essential account-related emails (verification, password reset, billing).
- Monitor usage to enforce plan limits and improve features.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use your content to train third-party AI models.
4. Legal basis for processing
We process your data based on your consent when you create an account, the performance of our contract with you (providing the Service and processing payments), and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Service. You may withdraw consent or object to processing at any time.
5. AI processing
Tasting notes, label images, and study content you submit may be processed by AI models to generate feedback, benchmark comparisons, and study material. This processing is necessary to deliver the core features of the Service. Your content is used only to produce your results and is not used to train external models.
6. Data retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your tasting sessions, notes, and study history are removed. We may retain limited usage logs for as long as necessary for billing reconciliation and fraud prevention.
7. Data sharing & third parties
We share data only with service providers that help us operate the Service — primarily Stripe for payment processing and our cloud hosting and AI providers for generating feedback. Each provider processes data under its own privacy and security commitments. We do not share your data with advertisers.
8. Data security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted transmission and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data using industry-standard practices.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erase your personal data by deleting your account.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured format.
- Withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us.
10. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where this occurs, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to ensure your data is protected to a comparable standard.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
